The White House Bangkok is a new addition to Bangkok’s best restaurant scene.
The young owner and Chef, Alexandrs Nasikailovs brings Latvian fare to Bangkok and you will be amazed by the taste and look of his spectacular creations.
On the bar side, Alexandrs has chosen the incredible mixologist Kei Sawada for cocktails pairing and the duo will bring explosives sensations to your taste buds.
The Place and Location
The White House Bangkok is located in a quiet neighborhood on Sukhumvit Soi 16, the house is divided into 3 parts, the fine dining restaurant, The White House Coffee Shop, and the Chocolate Shop.
The design is casual and comfortable.
The Food
Chef Alexandrs works with ingredients that seduce him and have a meaning for him, you can feel he’s truly passionate about nature and love to discover local flavors and product to marry them with the premium imported ones from Europe, Australia, and the Baltics.
We went for the tasting menu (฿ 4500 ++) which includes 4 appetizers and 9 courses, we ordered 2 more courses “a la Carte” The White House Cold Smoked Salmon (฿ 550), and The Roasted Black Chicken (฿ 750).
Among my favorites were the Gillardeau Oyster, with Bloody Mary Kombucha, Finger Lime and yogurt pearl served in an ice sphere for the brilliant idea and show, the black chicken with Latvian Porcini sauce, and the Hand-Dived Sea Scallops with Burnt Butter Hollandaise sauce, Sturgeon Caviar and Sea Foam, flash-cooked in a wood fire oven which delivered a unique taste and flavors.
For the Dessert, The Snowball came impressively, with a white chocolate mousse ball with a snow texture, stuffed with a silky passion fruit ice cream on a red dragon fruit granite bed.
All the courses came in a spectacular stylish way and were excellent, full of different flavors, perfectly balanced to awaken your senses.
The Bar
The White House Bangkok is also home to the “Savant Fou” Mixologist Kei Sawada and while you are there you don’t want to miss the opportunity to savor some of his concoctions whether with the pairing cocktails menu or at the bar listening to his cocktail’s inspirations stories.
You will easily spot a Rotary Evaporator, this guy does his own flavored alcohol, sometimes with some weird flavors such as the Blue Cheese Rum.
I started with a “Midnight Cruise” a shake of Lavender Infused Gin, Giffard Elderflower Liquor, Fresh Yuzu Juice, and Bamboo Charcoal powder for the night feeling, Kei explain the name of the cocktail comparing the 2 flowers alcohols to 2 Thai girls and the Yuzu to a Japanese man. All perfectly balanced with a smooth kick.
I was very curious about some of his flavors ideas, so the next cocktail was a “Blue Cheese Sake Martini, at that point, I was a bit worried about the outcome, but once again it was surprisingly perfect, strong in blue cheese flavors as it can be with the real cheese, smoothed by the mango in the back of your palate…a must-try.
We also taste The Umami Snow Crab Bloody Mary, “The Flambed” Pina colada, The Japanese Shisu Mojito, and Kei’s version of Espresso Martini turned into an ambrosial Tiramisu Martini which was impressive by the feeling of eating the real dessert.
All the cocktails were perfectly aligned with the flavors announced, strong enough in alcohol, and with a special touch that makes them all special.
The White House Bangkok is an experience to have, overall everything was amazing and the creations of Alex and Kei will for sure keep you coming back.
