MaIzakaya is a new addition to Bangkok’s Japanese restaurant scene with a fusion twist.
Ichiken Izakaya Thonglor
Located in the Thonglor area Ichiken offers a mixed menu of Japanese and Italian influences in Tapas style and they do it well.
All the food we ordered that evening was full of flavors with its original taste and cooked to perfection.
The restaurant is on two floors with a long bar to eat in typical Japanese style, the decoration is modern bistro style with comfortable lighting.

Ichiken has a complete drink list, including a good selection of wines and a cocktail menu as well
Here’s our order recommendation
Sakana Tartare (฿ 280) with maguro, salmon, hamachi, and avocado, served with a delicious grilled Focaccia
Arancini di Sepia (฿ 180) Fried balls of back ink risotto on a kind of tartare cream, it had a bit the texture of glutinous rice but was totally delicious, full of flavors with a tender squid piece inside.
Sashimi 5 Kinds (฿ 650) with maguro, hamachi, salmon, engawa, and hotate, all were very fresh and tasty.
From the grill
Piman Tsukune ( ฿ 80) our favorite to start a meal but we finally ordered 6 portions of this green chili stuffed with grounded chicken and pork meat.
Assorted Vegetables (฿ 140) Maitake mushrooms, zucchini, and eggplant, with a secret anchovy sauce that make the whole veggies delicious.
Hotate Yuzu Kosho (฿ 240) a Hokaido scallop with yuzu kosho and shoyu, very tasteful
Their menu includes as well a choice of Pasta, Salads, and Rolls.
Overall a very good experience, the prices are already reasonable and for their opening, they are offering a 50% discount on all the menu until the end of August so you better make your booking soon!
