Sky Pagodas Temple: The place and Location
This spectacular mountain temple Wat Chalermprakiat or Pu Pha Dang Temple วัดเฉลิมพระเกียรติ ลำปาง(วัดพระพุทธบาทสุทธาวาส) also called Sky Pagodas Temple Lampang is located in Lampang region (North-East Thailand) and it has to be on your list if you are around.
When you arrive at the top after an 800 meters climb (don’t worry they built iron stairs to access) you will feel immediately the magic of the place with the stunning view of the stupas built around the rocks on impossible places.
How to go there
The temple is about a 1-hour drive from Lampang city and 2.40 hours from Chiang Mai.
If you go there with your own vehicle, note that the name of the temple doesn’t exist in English on Google Maps. Here the name in Thai, วัดเฉลิมพระเกียรติ ลำปาง(วัดพระพุทธบาทสุทธาวาส)just click and you are good to go.
When you arrive at the destination you might find a closed road, continue on the left till you find parking and some shops. From there you will buy your ticket and they will bring you to the mountain top with their own pick-up after you arrive at the starting point you will still have to climb 800 m on the stairs…it’s worth it
I recommend staying in Lampang it’s a charming city, where we stayed at Lampang River Lodge Hotel (see review here) an amazing place with a very fair price.
If you don’t drive, you can also come by train or plane from Bangkok or Chiang Mai or Chiang Mai to Nakhon Lampang station.
This place is really magic, we went there by car found it easily with your guidance. Thanks for this article
Hi, Horizon.
Thanks for the advice.
I will be very careful about scams.
Hello.
My name is Saito and I live in Japan.
I heard that an American friend of mine who lost his wallet is being taken care of at a temple with the help of a monk from Wat Chalermprakiat.
I am looking for him and would like to know if he is really at the temple now.
Also, my friend may be using an alias.
Is there any way to contact the temple?
If we can get some information, we would like to send him some money and send him back home.
Thank you in advance for your help.
Hello Saito, I don’t think there’s a direct way to contact the temple, I don’t know know how you know your friend but it seems like a weird story and I’ve heard many scams with similar stories, anyway if you want to contact the temple i would advise you to contact a Thai agency who organize trips to the temple regularly and talk to them about your story, i’m sure they can ask around on their next trip there.
